Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has addressed the issue of the new minimum wage for workers, emphasizing governors’ support for its implementation.

During a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governor Sule expressed his personal opinion, stating that paying the minimum wage is not a challenge for states. Nasarawa State has been paying the N30,000 minimum wage since 2019 and has also implemented promotions, gratuities, and other benefits for workers.

Governor Sule highlighted the importance of workers’ welfare and expressed backing for the federal government’s committee reviewing workers’ pay. He mentioned that governors are awaiting the committee’s outcomes before making decisions on the minimum wage matter. The governor emphasized that states may exceed the minimum wage based on their financial capacity.

Furthermore, Governor Sule showcased Nasarawa State’s achievements, including the successful establishment of a lithium factory by foreign investors, demonstrating the state’s secure and business-friendly environment. He also highlighted the state’s agricultural successes, ranking highly in sesame farming, yam, cassava, and rice production.
