The National Judicial Council has put forth a recommendation for Justice Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, spouse of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to be elevated to the Court of Appeals.

Suzzette, who previously served as the First Lady of Rivers State, is among 21 individuals proposed for the appellate court. She currently holds a position as a Justice at the Rivers State High Court.

Similarly, Oluwakemi Victoria Ariwoola, who is related by marriage to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, has been included in a list of 12 judges considered for promotion to the Federal High Court in Abuja. Both Suzzette and Victoria are part of a larger group of 86 judges recommended by the Interview Committee on Appointment of Judicial Officers of all Superior Courts of Record in Nigeria.

The council announced these recommendations during its 105th plenary meeting, which took place from May 15 to 16, 2024. According to Soji Oye, the council’s Director of Information, all recommended candidates will be officially sworn in following the approval of the NJC recommendations by the President and their respective State Governors.
