Three Americans have been arrested for their involvement in a failed coup attempt in the Democratic Republic of Congo that resulted in multiple fatalities.

The Congolese military reported intercepting the coup near the presidential palace. Out of the 50 individuals implicated in the plot, three were identified as American citizens.

One of these Americans, a 36-year-old U.S. citizen born in Maryland, has had their passport circulated online. U.S. Ambassador to Congo, Lucy Tamlyn, confirmed the involvement of U.S. citizens in the incident through an official statement.

The coup attempt was allegedly orchestrated by Christian Malanga, a U.S.-based Congolese politician. Malanga was killed at the presidential palace after he resisted arrest.
