The Nigerian military has vowed to fiercely retaliate against the IPOB/ESN terrorists responsible for the heinous assassination of some of their men deployed to enforce peace and protect citizens at the Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Area, adjoining Aba metropolis in Abia State.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, confirmed the incident in a press release. He reported the unfortunate loss of five military personnel who were stationed to maintain peace and safeguard the local citizens.
The assailants, identified as terrorists from IPOB/ESN, launched a surprise attack on the checkpoint. They arrived in three tinted Prado Toyota SUVs and from nearby built-up areas, catching the troops off guard.
The military deeply mourns the loss of these brave soldiers and is currently investigating the incident. In light of this tragic event, the military has emphasized the necessity of a strong retaliation against these acts of terror, promising a fierce response.
The statement further highlighted the importance of public support in combating terrorism. It pointed out that the terrorists, in this case, the IPOB, exploited this aspect to carry out their attacks. The situation underscores the need for a more comprehensive approach to security.
In their determination to respond decisively to the attack, the military has vowed to apply intense military pressure on the perpetrators until their complete defeat is achieved. Despite the sorrow over the loss of their comrades, General Buba reiterated the military’s unwavering commitment to ensuring peace and security for all citizens.
