Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party’s presidential nominee, has issued a statement expressing his gratitude to a patriotic young man, known as Lord Zeus, who courageously highlighted the issue of the Second Niger Bridge’s vandalism.

A viral video, shared by this conscientious Nigerian, vividly illustrates the reckless criminal acts and destruction of our shared resources. If not addressed, these actions could pose a serious threat to the public. The video reveals how the vital infrastructure of the Second Niger Bridge is being damaged by criminals, endangering road users and posing a societal security risk.

Obi echoes the concerns of many citizens about the ongoing destruction of public property, including the vandalism of railway tracks, the theft of high voltage cables, and the removal of aluminum railings from bridges. He strongly condemns these acts of sabotage and calls on the government and security agencies to thoroughly investigate and prosecute the culprits.

In response to these criminal activities, Obi advocates for the implementation of stringent disciplinary measures against those who damage public assets. He suggests that in this era of advanced electronic surveillance, authorities should install dependable surveillance systems to monitor the security of crucial public infrastructure.

Obi calls on traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, and other stakeholders to rally a collective response. He emphasizes the need for a joint effort to educate and raise awareness among our people about the detrimental effects of such criminal behavior, which not only hampers our economic growth but also endangers lives. In our quest to build a new Nigeria, we must eradicate all forms of criminality and work together to create a safer, more prosperous nation for everyone.
