In a signed statement on July 20, 2024, Yunusa Tanko, the POMR Spokesman, addressed the allegations surrounding a planned protest against the Tinubu government.

According to Bayo Onanuga, a spokesperson for the Presidency, supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, are behind the proposed nationwide protest. Onanuga further suggested that Obi should be held accountable for any violence that may ensue during the protest.

However, the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) vehemently denies these “outlandish, vicious, and unfounded allegations.” POMR asserts that reliable information indicates the allegations are fabricated to justify Obi’s arrest, restrict his freedom, and silence his advocacy for good governance. Throughout his political career, Peter Obi has consistently demonstrated a commitment to issue-driven discourse, avoiding personal attacks.

POMR also highlights that certain elements are attempting to distract Obi and confuse Nigerians. These “spin doctors” and hirelings, motivated by their own interests, propagate falsehoods. Despite their efforts, Obi remains resolute in his pursuit of a better Nigeria. The challenges faced by the administration, including fuel subsidy issues, growing poverty, inflation, nepotism, and unresolved historical conflicts, should not be unfairly attributed to him.

The POMR encourages Nigerians to disregard the Presidency’s attempts at cheap blackmail.

Obi and his supporters, both within the country and in the Diaspora, remain committed to their vision of a new Nigeria—one that is possible and unyielding in the face of adversity
