On Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will officially appoint Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
This appointment follows the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who reached the mandatory retirement age of 70.
According to Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, the swearing-in ceremony will be held at the State House Council Chambers.
Justice Kekere-Ekun, aged 66, will be the second female to hold the position of Chief Justice in Nigeria’s history, following Mariam Mukhtar, who served from July 2012 to November 2014. Her judicial career includes serving on the Court of Appeal from September 22, 2004, where she presided over various divisions, including Makurdi and Akure. She joined the Supreme Court as its fifth female justice on July 8, 2013.
