Nigerian investigative journalist David Hundeyin has taken to his X handle to express growing concern over the fate of whistleblower PIDOM, who has allegedly been in detention at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja.
According to Hundeyin, PIDOM was confirmed to be alive and relatively unharmed as of Wednesday. However, recent developments have cast uncertainty over his condition, with security agencies now denying any knowledge of his whereabouts.
Hundeyin suggested that the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), led by Nuhu Ribadu, may be involved in the case, despite the office having no direct authority over the Nigerian Police Force. He emphasized that only Ribadu could clarify PIDOM’s status at this point.
Drawing a chilling parallel, Hundeyin reminded the public that even during the repressive regime of General Sani Abacha, political prisoners did not die in detention without at least appearing before a judge. The situation has left Nigerians questioning the transparency and accountability of their government as calls for PIDOM’s release intensify.
