Nigerians are demanding that the police provide an update on the status of Kehinde Adesoga Adekusibe, who was arrested and secretly released after calling for the mass killing of Igbo people living in the South-West region of the country.

The controversy began with a social media post on May 18, 2023, where Adekusibe wrote on his Twitter handle:

“Let’s kill all Igbos. Let’s flush them out of Yoruba lands. I hate these people with passion. They are violent people. They are the worst. They hate us. Let’s hate them without holding back.”

Following this inflammatory tweet, Adekusibe was arrested by the Osun police on June 16, 2023, for violating social media policies on hate speech. He had confessed to the crime during his arrest.

However, there have been no public updates on his case since his arrest, leading to speculation that he may have been secretly released without facing prosecution. The resurfacing of the tweet on social media has reignited the controversy and sparked widespread outrage among Nigerians.

The lack of transparency regarding Adekusibe’s current status has fueled public concern and demands for accountability from the police. Many are calling for clarity on whether he has been released and, if so, why no charges were filed despite his confession to the crime. The incident highlights ongoing tensions and the need for stringent measures against hate speech and ethnic violence in Nigeria.
