Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu criticized Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chair of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), for what she perceives as selective justice in her approach to addressing hate speech in a recent video.

While Dabiri-Erewa has been outspoken against a woman who incited violence against Yoruba and Edo citizens, Yesufu argues that she must apply the same passion to all cases and avoid selective justice.

Yesufu highlighted the lack of accountability for those who have incited violence against the Igbo people, pointing out an apparent double standard.

She questioned the push to prosecute Amaka Patience Sunnberger, while no similar actions are being taken against individuals who have called for the killing of Igbo people.

Yesufu also accused President Bola Tinubu of fueling anti-Igbo sentiment for political purposes. She argued that the current wave of bigotry against the Igbo people has a political undertone, orchestrated by President Tinubu.

Yesufu highlighted that when the Igbo community supported and overwhelmingly voted for former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, and former vice president Atiku Abubakar, they were not labeled as bigots. However, after they voted for Peter Obi, the narrative suddenly shifted, and they are now being painted as bigots.
