In a major operation on Saturday, Special Forces from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) successfully neutralized a notorious terrorist leader, Mustapha Abdullahi, and five of his gang members during a shootout along the Sabon-Birni road in Kaduna State.

The Director of NAF Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, announced on Sunday that the terrorists were intercepted while on their way to carry out attacks and kidnappings in nearby communities. The operation was initiated following intelligence reports received on August 31, 2024, indicating that Abdullahi and his group were sighted near the Sabon Gida Forest in the Igabi Local Government Area (LGA), with plans to harm or abduct innocent civilians.

Upon locating the terrorists, who were traveling on motorcycles, the Special Forces engaged them. The terrorists opened fire upon spotting the troops but were quickly overpowered by the superior firepower of the NAF forces, resulting in the elimination of all six terrorists.

The troops recovered various weapons from the scene, including five den guns, a locally fabricated sub-machine gun, and live ammunition. Other items seized included assorted charms, lighters, SIM cards, and phone cases.

AVM Gabkwet emphasized that efforts to clear Igabi, Birnin Gwari, and surrounding areas of criminal elements are ongoing. He commended the troops for their bravery and urged them to continue their mission to protect lives and properties in the region.
