Mazi Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN, the newly elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has announced a series of measures to support the #EndBadGovernance protesters facing legal trials.

In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, he revealed that he has directed all NBA branches to monitor the ongoing trials of these protesters.

Furthermore, Osigwe unveiled a Pro Bono initiative aimed at providing legal representation to protesters who cannot afford it. The NBA Citizens’ Liberties Committee (NBA-CLC) will be actively collaborating with the Chairmen and Human Rights Committees of NBA branches in regions where these prosecutions are taking place. The goal is to ensure that no defendant is left without a fair trial or suffers any form of injustice.

The NBA legal team remains committed to observing court proceedings to guarantee that trials adhere strictly to due process, uphold the rule of law, and protect the legal rights of all defendants. Osigwe reaffirmed that NBA lawyers are present in courts and will continue to monitor the proceedings closely to ensure that justice is delivered.
