The Labour Party (LP) in Kaduna State has confirmed that Nenadi Usman has been appointed as the National Caretaker Chairman of the party following the expiration of Barrister Julius Abure’s tenure.
In a statement released on Saturday by Yusuf Solomon Danbaki, Chairman, and Sani Sahabi, Secretary of the State Labour Party Interim Committee, the party clarified, “The tenure of Barrister Julius Abure and all his appointees ended on June 9, 2024. The rejection of Nenadi Usman’s appointment appears to stem from a reluctance to accept this reality.”
The Labour Party expressed gratitude to Auwal Tafoki for his contributions as the former State Chairman, emphasizing, “It is crucial for the party to move forward.”
According to the statement, Nenadi Usman’s appointment, endorsed by Governor Alex Otti, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, members of the national and state assemblies, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), the gubernatorial candidates forum, and other stakeholders, is a strategic step to ensure the party’s continued relevance and effectiveness.
The statement further noted, “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ceased all dealings with Barrister Abure and his appointees, making it imperative for the party to adapt and embrace the new leadership.”
Acknowledging the challenges of this transition, the party’s statement added, “Change can be challenging to accept, but it is essential for the Labour Party to remain relevant and functional.”
The party urged all members and stakeholders to support Nenadi Usman and the new leadership team to ensure a brighter future for the Labour Party in Nigeria.
