The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has deviated from President Bola Tinubu’s directive to remain in Sokoto until banditry is eradicated.

Instead, Matawalle is currently in Kano, engaging in rice distribution palliative rice with fellow politicians.

Tinubu had instructed Matawalle, alongside key military leaders, to stay in Sokoto State in response to a recent escalation in attacks by criminal bandits in Nigeria’s North-West.

Despite this, Matawalle’s presence in Kano has raised concerns about his commitment to the President’s mandate.

In a statement, Matawalle had reassured residents of Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and the broader North-West region that security forces would make every effort to eliminate the bandits. “I will be on the ground in the North-West with the Chief of Defence Staff and other military chiefs, leading our brave men and women in uniform,” he emphasized.
