Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has urged the people of Edo State to support Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party’s candidate, in the upcoming governorship election on Saturday.

During a rally held on Wednesday, Baba-Ahmed emphasized that only the Labour Party and its candidate could deliver improved security and education for the citizens of Edo. He called on voters to use their ballots to restore competent leadership in the state, highlighting the importance of the election.

Reflecting on past elections, Baba-Ahmed noted that previous Labour Party candidates were undermined in the 2023 general election, despite the potential they could have brought to governance.

“I want to tell you how powerful Labour is. The change you can bring with your vote, your heart, and your mind is incredible,” he told the crowd. He drew a comparison to Lagos State, which he claimed was misgoverned for 24 years until a young Labour Party candidate emerged to challenge the status quo.

“They rigged and manipulated the system when they saw Peter Obi winning. They even altered the meaning of the English language when he won the presidency,” he added, expressing his frustration with the political establishment.

Baba-Ahmed urged voters not to be intimidated by news reports or the power of political elites, stressing that true power lies with the people. “When you see them come down from their big planes, remember the value of your naira. These are the same people who have destroyed your security and economy,” he said.

He emphasized that Edo’s rich history and culture should be reflected in its leadership, and urged voters to make the right choice by electing Olumide Akpata as their governor.

“Choosing the right leader will bring security to your communities, money to your pockets, and education to your children. Bad leadership is what has plagued Nigeria, and this is what we need to end,” Baba-Ahmed declared.

He concluded with a powerful call to action, saying, “On Saturday, vote Akpata as your governor, and together we will bring positive change to Edo State.”
