Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State hailed the local government elections as a true demonstration of democracy in action during his visit to Owo Ward in Nkanu East Local Government Area on Saturday.

After casting his vote, Mbah praised the electoral process and the impressive voter turnout, stating, “This is a major milestone for us, being the first local government elections under this administration. Reports from across the state indicate that the exercise has been peaceful and well-organized.”

He emphasized the importance of local government autonomy and the role it plays in governance. “The Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy reaffirms our commitment to financially supporting councils and executing key infrastructural projects in all 260 wards of the state,” he noted.

Mbah added, “In Enugu, local government has always functioned independently. Our administration continues to boost their operations to ensure we lift our people out of poverty and enhance the state’s economy.”

The governor highlighted a growing political awareness among citizens, attributing the significant voter turnout to a realization that government decisions impact their lives. “People are participating because they understand the importance of their voices in shaping governance,” he concluded.
