The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, has reaffirmed that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, remains a committed member of the PDP, despite the recent local government election victories by other political parties.
During the local council elections held on Saturday, the Action Peoples Party (APP) secured 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions, while the Action Alliance (AA) claimed the remaining seat. The APP also won 314 out of 319 councillorship positions across the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
On Sunday, Governor Fubara swore in the newly elected council chairmen, signaling his acceptance of the election outcome. In response, Senator Mohammed, through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, praised Fubara’s leadership and strategic approach to governance, emphasizing that Rivers State remains a PDP stronghold despite the election results.
Mohammed highlighted Fubara’s commitment to democratic governance, noting that the governor allowed other parties to participate fully in the political process, regardless of party affiliations. “He is still with us. He’s still a PDP man, and I am here on behalf of the Governors to show solidarity with him for his proactive democratic instincts,” Mohammed said.
He further commended Fubara for adopting innovative strategies to deliver governance at the local level, stating that the governor’s actions reflect a new political paradigm in Nigeria, where governance transcends party lines. “Fubara has established himself as a governor and the pride of all the governors in Nigeria,” Mohammed added.
