Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike who is now minister of FCT had urged his Lagos State counterpart, Akinwunmi Ambode, to disregard the influence of his political godfather, Bola Tinubu.

Speaking in Port Harcourt, Wike emphasized the importance of prioritizing state interests over personal loyalties, stating, “If it is correct that the godfather is against Ambode, I will tell him to resist it. Godfatherism is not good.

It negates development”. He asserted that Rivers State will not tolerate such political dynamics, highlighting his administration’s achievements over the past three years and affirming that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) remains strong in the state

“If it is true that the godfather is against Ambode, I will tell him to resist it,” Wike said. “Godfatherism hinders progress. Rivers State will not tolerate it, and we have ended it here. My focus is to ensure good governance for the people of Rivers State.”

Wike also addressed rumors suggesting he is eyeing the vice presidency. He admitted that some presidential hopefuls have offered him the role in exchange for support but made it clear that he is not interested.

“There are aspirants who promised me the position of vice president, but I declined. At this point, I will not seek that office—not even in my dreams. My priority remains serving Rivers State,” Wike emphasized.

He also refuted claims that the choice to host the PDP National Convention in Port Harcourt was a strategic move to manipulate outcomes, explaining that the decision was made without his input and was later ratified by party governors and presidential aspirants.

“A few presidential aspirants, who originally supported the decision, are now secretly opposing it,” he noted. “The convention’s location won’t determine the winner; it’s the delegates from all over the country who will decide. The outcome will not be swayed by where the convention is held.”
