Nigerians have taken to social media in disbelief after learning that the Namibian government is seeking Nigeria’s assistance in combating corruption.
Many online commentators expressed skepticism, warning Namibia that involving Nigeria might backfire, with some even saying that Nigeria could end up teaching more corruption instead of curbing it.
This development follows a request by the Namibian government for collaboration with Nigeria’s Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to explore training and expertise exchange with the Namibian Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
During a courtesy visit to the ICPC headquarters, Namibia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Humphrey Geiseb, formally requested Nigeria’s assistance in combating corruption, citing Nigeria’s prominent role in anti-corruption efforts in Africa. He highlighted Namibia’s interest in learning from Nigeria’s successes, particularly in asset recovery.
Geiseb emphasized the need for African nations to collaborate and share expertise rather than seek help from outside the continent. In response, ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu welcomed the ambassador’s visit and stressed the importance of unity among African nations in addressing corruption. He expressed Nigeria’s willingness to support Namibia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and proposed the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN) as a training resource for Namibian personnel.
Aliyu also reaffirmed the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries, highlighting Nigeria’s commitment to assist Namibia in its anti-corruption initiatives.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they succeed in curbing corruption in Namibia but fail to do so in Nigeria. Since we have leaders who prefer engaging in superficial activities rather than fulfilling their duties.
