Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the ongoing violence in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on October 21st, 2024, Obi condemned the recent killing of 16 young men in Nibo, Anambra State, calling it a senseless and despicable act.
“This tragic incident is a profound loss not only to the victims’ families but to our entire society,” Obi remarked, highlighting the broader issue of escalating violence that threatens communities across the nation. He emphasized that life is sacred, and the continual disregard for human dignity and the rule of law cannot be tolerated.
“Our nation cannot progress if we allow violence to become the norm,” he warned, urging a united effort to address the root causes of this growing crisis.
Obi extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving families, the Nibo community, the Government of Anambra State, and all those affected by the tragedy. His thoughts and prayers, he said, are with them during this difficult time.
He also called on authorities to act swiftly in bringing the perpetrators of this horrific crime to justice, stressing that Nigeria must become a country where safety and justice prevail over violence and lawlessness.
