The Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has dismissed claims that she aided the Biafra Republic Government in securing a $57.5 billion loan from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The allegation, attributed to Simon Ekpa, the self-declared Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in exile, was shared via social media, suggesting Okonjo-Iweala had agreed to assist the separatist movement in forming its government by the end of 2024.

In a firm response posted on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Okonjo-Iweala categorically rejected the claims, emphasizing their falsehood. She urged individuals to refrain from using her name for misleading purposes, stating:

“I know no sensible person will believe what is contained in the outrageous tweet below, but in these troubled times, it is important to underscore that the statement is false. Again, I enjoin all those seeking to misuse my name to desist!”
