Electricity has been restored across four states under the Jos Electricity Distribution franchise — Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, and Benue.

Power returned at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday, sparking jubilant celebrations in Jos, the Plateau state capital, where residents had eagerly awaited the end of the blackout.

The outage, lasting nearly 10 days, followed the tripping of the 330kV transmission line connecting Benue and Enugu states, leaving multiple northern states without power. This prolonged disruption severely impacted daily activities and local businesses, leaving many residents frustrated.

Earlier in the week, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, revealed that President Bola Tinubu had taken swift action to address the situation. The President called on Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to expedite the process, emphasizing the urgency of restoring power to affected regions.

According to Onanuga, the President expressed dismay over the reported cases of vandalism affecting power infrastructure and instructed the Ministry of Power and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to develop both immediate and long-term solutions. The government aims to prevent similar disruptions in the future, addressing the vulnerabilities in critical power infrastructure across the region.
