In the ongoing Abia State Local Government elections, Governor Alex Otti and his wife cast their votes on Saturday at Unit 017 in Ahiafor, Umuru-Umuehim Nvosi, Isialangwa South Local Government Area, at precisely 12:19 p.m.

Speaking with THE WHISTLER after voting, Governor Otti reflected on the election process. “From what I see here, everything is peaceful. People are coming out to vote and leaving. Overall, I believe it’s a smooth process. I’ve been monitoring reports from the 4,062 polling units across the local governments, and aside from minor disturbances in places like Ohafia and Obingwa, the situation remains calm. Upon learning of any disruptions, we promptly mobilized security to restore order. So far, everything seems to be proceeding well,” he stated.

Governor Otti has consistently urged voters in Abia to prioritize the credibility and competence of candidates over party affiliation. When asked whether he believes the election results will reflect this philosophy, he replied, “Political parties are simply platforms for elections. Many parties face challenges, but we advocate for voting based on candidates’ abilities to deliver. For instance, the mayor of Aba North recently completed an administrative building in just 11 months, illustrating the importance of electing capable leaders.”

He expressed confidence that the election outcomes would align with his message, as many voters are determined to support candidates with the necessary skills. “People are speaking out about voting for those with real capacity,” Otti remarked.

The governor also emphasized the importance of voter decisions, reminding the electorate that choosing the right candidates at the grassroots level is crucial. “This is a local government election, so we know our people well. If you elect the wrong candidate, be prepared to face the consequences of your choice today,” he warned.

As the Abia Local Government elections unfold, Governor Otti hopes for a peaceful, democratic process that will lead to responsible leadership at the local level, expressing his belief in the voters’ ability to make wise choices.
