The Abia State Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) has awarded Certificates of Return to the recently elected Mayors of the state’s 17 Local Government Areas, solidifying their positions and preparing them for inauguration.

At the presentation ceremony held Sunday at the ABSIEC headquarters in Umuahia, ABSIEC Chairman Professor George Chima encouraged the new Mayors to support Governor Alex Otti’s vision for progress across the state. Professor Chima emphasized that Abia’s growth relies on comprehensive representation and effective governance from local leaders.

“These certificates are the official instruments of power,” Professor Chima stated. “Without this Certificate of Return, you do not hold the authority to be inaugurated. Today, I congratulate each of you as leaders entrusted with this responsibility, and I wish you success as you lead your respective communities.” He also urged the Mayors to collaborate closely with their Deputies to ensure efficient service delivery across their LGAs.

In response, the Mayor-elect of Umunneochi LGA, Mr. Sunday Afuruike, alongside Dr. Anthony Nwaubani of Ikwuano and Dr. Okereke Ezearu, expressed their gratitude to ABSIEC for conducting a transparent election.
