Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has accused opposition parties of orchestrating the recent wave of insecurity in major cities like Umuahia and Aba.
In a statement issued by Ferdinand Ekeoma, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the Governor alleged that the opposition is working with external collaborators to disrupt the state’s peace and derail its developmental agenda.
Governor Otti revealed that his administration has launched a robust counter-offensive to dismantle the criminal networks threatening public safety. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities.
The statement asserted that the perpetrators aim to destabilize the government after their earlier attempts to spread falsehoods against the administration failed to gain traction among the people of Abia.
“Our government is known for peace and has no history of engaging in divisive or destructive politics. However, we will not stand by while criminals and their sponsors endanger the lives and properties of law-abiding citizens,” the statement read.
The Governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to protecting Abians, assuring residents that their safety is a top priority. He called on community leaders, traditional rulers, and citizens to collaborate with law enforcement to eradicate criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and ritual killings.
Otti also warned against harboring unknown individuals, cautioning that his government would hold accountable anyone found aiding or abetting criminal elements.
“Abia State will no longer tolerate those who play politics with the lives of our citizens. All criminals and their sponsors will face the full weight of the law,” the statement concluded.
Parents and guardians were also advised to monitor their children closely to prevent them from engaging in unlawful activities.
