A senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Jackson Ude, shared on X about an incident involving the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Sunday, reportedly caused embarrassment during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Nigeria.
The Minister appeared at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja visibly intoxicated, causing embarrassment during the arrival of Indian Prime Minister who was visiting Nigeria for a state event.
Wike, reeking of alcohol, greeted the Prime Minister and handed over the Abuja City Key. However, as he tried to engage in conversation, his slurred speech became apparent, creating an awkward situation. As Modi proceeded to his convoy, Wike followed him, continuing to slur, which made the Indian leader visibly uncomfortable. Both Nigerian and Indian security personnel swiftly intervened, escorting the Prime Minister away.
The incident quickly reached Aso Rock, prompting immediate action. Security officials were instructed to bar Wike from entering the Presidential Villa during Modi’s visit with President Bola Tinubu.
