Oseloka H. Obaze, a prominent figure within Nigeria’s Labour Party, recently issued a pointed rebuttal to comments made by Dr. Doyin Okupe concerning Peter Obi’s “Consumption to Production” mantra.

Dr. Okupe, a former ally of Obi and erstwhile Director-General of his campaign, reportedly claimed that the mantra was not underpinned by a formal policy document. Obaze refuted this assertion, labeling it as “balderdash” and providing evidence to counter the claim.

In his response, shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Obaze asserted that Dr. Okupe had been directly involved in the process of finalizing Peter Obi’s policy document. As a former campaign DG, Dr. Okupe reportedly chaired the committee responsible for drafting and finalizing this document. Obaze went further to suggest that Okupe might be experiencing a lapse in memory, sarcastically attributing this to Okupe’s background as a medical doctor.

Obaze’s strong defense not only highlights the documented existence of the policy framework but also underscores his disappointment in the apparent public contradiction by Okupe, whom he referred to as a friend. The exchange reflects broader tensions within the Labour Party and among its affiliates, especially in the wake of recent electoral challenges and internal disagreements.
