Troops under Operation Udo Ka have successfully neutralised several suspected militants of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a clearance operation in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.
The operation, conducted along the Ekeututu–Ihiteunansa Road, resulted in the recovery of pump-action rifles, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), materials for making IEDs, and charms, the Nigerian Army revealed in a statement on Monday night.
According to the statement, the operation was part of a series of rigorous patrols aimed at dismantling remnants of IPOB elements in the South East geopolitical zone.
“During the operation, troops encountered suspected IPOB/ESN members. In the ensuing engagement, several of the suspected criminals were neutralised,” the statement disclosed.
The Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, praised the troops for their bravery and urged them to continue targeting criminal hideouts across the region.
Lt.-Gen. Oluyede also reassured residents of the South East of their safety, encouraging them to go about their daily lives without fear.
