Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured residents of his administration’s commitment to safeguarding their welfare and protecting the state from both internal and external threats.
Speaking at the Emblem Appeal Fund Launching in preparation for Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara pledged to prioritize governance that fosters peace, development, and security.
Championing Peace and Development
Governor Fubara highlighted the collaborative efforts between his administration and security agencies, which have maintained peace and stability across the state. He reiterated his resolve to thwart any schemes aimed at disrupting governance or creating discord among the populace.
“We have continued to fight like gallant soldiers to protect the state from enemies who hatch plans to halt governance and create chaos among the people,” he stated.
Investments in Employment and Education
Emphasizing the administration’s focus on strategic employment and education, the Governor announced the hiring of 2,000 health professionals and the upward review of 1,000 positions in the Universal Basic Education (UBE) and Post-Primary Schools. Scholarships have also been awarded to Rivers State youths attending PAMO University of Medical Sciences and Wigwe University.
“Our aim is to prioritize professional employment. While we have suspended large-scale hiring temporarily, we have employed over 2,000 medical professionals and approved increased recruitment for UBE and Post-Primary Schools Boards,” Governor Fubara explained.
On scholarships, he clarified that current awards were merit-based through partner universities but assured that a broader, government-managed scholarship program would soon be launched.
Enhanced Civil Servants’ Welfare
Governor Fubara proudly announced the implementation of a new minimum wage of N85,000, significantly boosting civil servants’ salaries.
“We are the first state to fulfill such a promise. Civil servants earning N70,000 now jubilate with N120,000 or more. The happiness and welfare of our people remain our greatest achievement,” he remarked.
Support for Veterans and Fallen Heroes’ Families
During the event, the Governor, a dependent of a fallen military officer, emphasized the importance of supporting war veterans and their families. He launched the emblem appeal with a donation of N40 million on behalf of the state government, urging attendees to contribute to the welfare of surviving veterans and dependents.
“No amount of money can truly compensate for the sacrifices of our fallen heroes. However, we must cushion the impact of their loss by supporting their families,” he noted.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, and the Acting Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, ACC Kuu Aminkipo Promise, also echoed the call for gratitude and financial support for the welfare of veterans and their families.
Commitment to Good Governance
Governor Fubara expressed appreciation for the support of Rivers people and security agencies. He assured them of his determination to fulfill his administration’s mandate and leave enduring legacies of good governance.
“We will follow this journey to the end, ensuring Rivers people remain at the center of all we do. With continued peace and cooperation, we will achieve our shared vision for a prosperous state,” he concluded.
