A trainee herbalist in Ogun State, Ifagbenga Taiwo, has admitted to killing his 41-day-old son in Adatan, Abeokuta, claiming his actions were influenced by a spell retualist.
Taiwo was apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command after his wife, Raimat Wasilat, found their baby with his throat slit. She had placed the infant on the bed while washing clothes outside, only to return and discover the horrifying scene. Her cries for help attracted neighbors, leading to Taiwo’s arrest.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that Wasilat accused her husband of the crime, prompting a police investigation.
In a video confession cited by The Whistler, Taiwo detailed the events leading to the tragedy. He attributed his actions to an unexplained, overpowering urge to commit a crime.
“I didn’t go home on Sunday because of work,” Taiwo recounted. “When I returned on Monday, I took a bath, gave my wife some money, and went back to work after picking up charms I had forgotten at home.
“An hour later, I felt a strange breeze blow at me, and I started feeling uneasy. It was like something was circulating in my body, compelling me to commit a crime.
“When I got home, I didn’t see my wife where she was washing. I went inside, picked up a knife from my mother’s room, and approached my son. That’s the last thing I remember before regaining consciousness and realizing what I had done.”
After the incident, Taiwo fled through the back door of the house but was later apprehended. Pleading for mercy, he claimed he was under the influence of a mysterious spell.
The case has sparked outrage, with calls for justice for the slain infant. Authorities continue their investigation.
