President Bola Tinubu, in his New Year message to Nigerians, expressed optimism that 2025 would bring brighter days for all citizens.

He assured that his government would fulfill the collective desires of Nigerians, despite the numerous challenges faced in 2024.

Tinubu highlighted positive economic indicators, including decreasing fuel prices, foreign trade surpluses in three consecutive quarters, rising foreign reserves, and a stronger naira against the US dollar. He noted that the stock market’s record growth had generated trillions of naira in wealth, and the surge in foreign investment reflected renewed confidence in the economy.

However, the president acknowledged that the cost of food and essential drugs remained a significant concern for many Nigerian households in 2024. He assured that his government would intensify efforts to lower these costs by boosting food production and promoting local manufacturing of essential drugs and medical supplies.

Tinubu promised to reduce inflation from its current high rate of 34.6 percent to 15 percent, with diligent work and divine help. He also announced plans to establish the National Credit Guarantee Company to expand risk-sharing instruments for financial institutions and enterprises, aiming to increase access to credit for individuals and critical sectors of the economy.

The president expressed optimism that this initiative would strengthen the financial system, expand credit access, and support underserved groups such as women and youths. He emphasized that it would drive growth, re-industrialization, and better living standards for Nigerians.

On a personal note, Tinubu thanked Nigerians for placing their confidence in him as president. He promised to continue serving diligently and wholeheartedly, embarking on necessary reforms to foster sustainable growth and prosperity for the nation. He called for cooperation and collaboration in pursuing the goal of a one trillion-dollar economy.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to stay focused and united, emphasizing that the country is on the right path to building a great nation that works for everyone. He cautioned against being distracted by a small segment of the population that views things through the prisms of politics, ethnicity, region, and religion.
