Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, has affirmed Victor Oko-Jumbo as the legitimate leader of the state’s House of Assembly, dismissing defectors as no longer recognized lawmakers.
The governor made this assertion during the signing of the 2025 Appropriation Bill, totaling N1.1 trillion, into law.
Fubara criticized Martins Amaewhule and 26 other members who recently left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating unequivocally that they no longer hold legislative authority in Rivers State.
“For those still confused, let me clarify: we have only one Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo,” Fubara declared.
He likened the defectors’ actions to a misguided voyage:
“About nine months ago, they embarked on a sea-bound journey, only to realize mid-course that they were heading into danger. Now they want to retreat, but it’s too late. We’ve been more than accommodating, but my administration will not tolerate further insults or distractions.”
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing the interests of Rivers State and maintaining the integrity of governance.
“Our focus remains on the progress of Rivers State. With the signing of this budget, I assure you that all plans will be implemented, building on our achievements in 2024 for an even more successful 2025,” Fubara concluded.
