Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Nigeria’s Labour Party in the 2023 election, issued a heartfelt statement today.

He recounted his emotional journey from Lagos to the site of the tragic petrol tanker explosion along the Dikko-Maje Road in Suleja, Niger State. The disaster claimed over 100 lives, injured more than 50 people, and destroyed numerous properties.

At the explosion site and the graveyard where 80 victims were buried, Obi expressed his sorrow over the preventable tragedy. He also visited some of the injured victims at the hospital to offer support and encouragement.

Obi emphasized the need for urgent safety measures to prevent such recurring disasters. He called for repairing roads, educating tanker vehicle operators, investing in healthcare, and lifting people out of poverty to avoid such heartbreaking losses.

Additionally, Obi met with Sarkin Dikko and his council to extend his condolences and solidarity with the Dikko community in Niger State. He stressed that human lives are invaluable and that governance must prioritize their protection through proactive policies.

“Together, we can ensure such tragedies become a thing of the past,” Obi concluded.
