Suspected Fulani herdsmen launched a deadly attack on the Ajegunle-Powerline community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, leaving five people dead.

The victims, identified as laborers from Plateau and Kaduna States, were reportedly working on farmlands when the assailants struck.

According to an eyewitness, Akin Olowolafe, the attack occurred in broad daylight as armed herdsmen invaded the area, firing gunshots indiscriminately.

“This is not the first time they have disrupted our farming activities. They destroy our crops, and despite multiple reports to the state government and security agencies, no decisive action has been taken,” Olowolafe lamented.

He further revealed that frequent attacks and armed robberies have created a climate of fear, forcing many farmers to abandon their farmlands. The destruction of crops by cattle has worsened food insecurity in the community, which depends on farming for survival.

Olowolafe called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and security agencies to intervene urgently and protect them from further attacks.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, stated that an attack did occur, and investigations are ongoing. However, she could not confirm the exact number of casualties.
