The leadership of the Obidient Movement has dismissed claims by former Osun State Governor, Bisi Akande, that the movement orchestrated the historic #EndSARS protests to prevent Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidency.
Dr. Tanko Yunusa, the movement’s National Coordinator, issued a press statement on Thursday, condemning Akande’s assertions as baseless and an insult to the memory of young Nigerians who lost their lives in the struggle against police brutality. He described the claims as a desperate attempt to rewrite history and deflect attention from government failures.
Dr. Yunusa clarified that #EndSARS was a decentralized, youth-led movement against police brutality, extrajudicial killings, and systemic oppression. It had no political affiliations and was not about any individual’s presidential ambition.
“To suggest that the Obidient Movement—a movement that emerged years later as a symbol of hope, accountability, and good governance—was responsible for #EndSARS is not only false but also a deliberate attempt to discredit our cause,” he stated.
He urged Akande and his allies to focus on real national issues such as economic hardship, insecurity, and unemployment instead of spreading misinformation.
The Obidient Movement reaffirmed its commitment to integrity, transparency, and good governance, vowing that no amount of false accusations would deter its advocacy for a better Nigeria.
