Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over the alarming rise in fuel tanker explosions across Nigeria.
In a statement released on January 25, 2025, Obi reacted to the latest tragedy in Enugu, where an explosion claimed 15 lives—just a week after a similar disaster in Niger State killed nearly 100 people and injured many.
Obi highlighted the disturbing frequency of such incidents, noting that at least three major explosions have occurred this month alone, resulting in significant loss of life and property.
“We must make the safety and security of lives and property a top priority,” he urged. “It is crucial to implement preventive measures, including repairing roads, enforcing strict safety regulations, and educating the public on handling accident-prone situations.”
Extending his condolences, Obi sympathized with the grieving families and the people of Enugu State. He prayed for the repose of the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured, calling for collective efforts to prevent further tragedies.
