Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed deep sorrow over the recent tragic loss of Nigerian soldiers, emphasizing the need for resilience in the battle against insecurity.

In a statement on January 31, 2025, Obi condemned the increasing attacks on military personnel, noting that at least 35 soldiers have lost their lives this month alone. He highlighted the deadly terrorist attack on an army base in Malam-Fatori, Borno State, where about 20 soldiers were killed.

“This is totally condemnable. Our courageous soldiers have remained resolute in the fight against insecurity. It is utterly heartbreaking to read the reports of their tragic deaths, orchestrated by terrorists,” Obi stated.

Adding to the sorrow, he acknowledged another unfortunate incident in Lagos, where four soldiers lost their lives after a vehicle reportedly lost control and crashed into them outside the barracks.

Obi extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the Nigerian Army, urging them to remain steadfast in their commitment to eradicating insecurity.

“May God grant eternal rest to the dead, fortitude to their loved ones, and quick healing to the injured,” he prayed.
