Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the recent election, made a significant visit to Mater Misericordiae College of Nursing Sciences in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, yesterday.

His visit underscores his steadfast commitment to healthcare, education, and empowerment as key drivers of national development.

A Historical Institution with a Legacy of Excellence

Founded in 1946, Mater Misericordiae College is one of Nigeria’s pioneering healthcare institutions. Its Schools of Nursing and Midwifery, established in 1952 and 1953, have produced thousands of skilled professionals who continue to play pivotal roles in Nigeria’s medical landscape.

Support for the Future of Healthcare in Nigeria

Currently home to around 1,000 students, the college is undergoing significant infrastructure upgrades. In support of these improvements, Peter Obi pledged his continued collaboration with the institution and donated ₦10 million to further its mission of training Nigeria’s next generation of healthcare professionals.

During his address to the students, Obi emphasized the critical role of healthcare in human development and the vital contributions of nurses and medical practitioners to national progress.
