Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the recent election, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Edwin Clark, a revered elder statesman.
Coming shortly after the loss of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, another cherished leader, Obi described Clark’s death as a “rude shock” that compounds the grief of losing such monumental figures in quick succession.
In a heartfelt statement, Obi, speaking on behalf of his family and the Obidient movement, offered condolences to the Clark family and the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF). He hailed Chief Clark as a towering presence in Nigeria’s socio-political sphere, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to peace, justice, equity, and fairness. Clark, Obi noted, was a steadfast advocate for good governance, never shying away from speaking truth to power.
Obi praised Clark as a patriot whose contributions to Nigeria were immeasurable, reflecting his deep yearning for a better nation. Recalling Clark’s support during his presidential campaign, Obi expressed gratitude for the elder statesman’s bold endorsement, which underscored his vision for a “New Nigeria” built on progress, productivity, and unity.
“Chief Clark will forever be remembered as a beacon of courage, resilience, and patriotism,” Obi said, lamenting his death as a profound loss to the country. He extended sympathies to the Ijaw Kingdom, the Delta State government, and its people, praying for strength to endure this irreparable void. Obi concluded with a prayer for Clark’s eternal rest and blessings upon his family.
