The Senator representing Abia South, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has strongly refuted claims that he disrupted today’s Senate Plenary demanding the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement issued on Friday by his media aide, Uchenna Awom, Abaribe described the report as deliberate misinformation aimed at distorting the facts.
He clarified that the senator was last seen on the Senate floor on Wednesday, and he left Abuja the following day, Thursday, for an oversight function in Ikwuano Umuahia, Abia State, organized by the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Awom emphasized that the Senate does not sit on Fridays, holding plenary sessions only from Tuesday to Thursday, thus rendering any claims about a disruption on a Friday completely unfounded.
Additionally, Uchenna pointed out that matters under judicial consideration, such as the case of Nnamdi Kanu, are not debated in the Senate. As Kanu’s case is currently before the courts, it would be inappropriate and against parliamentary procedure for the Senate to interfere in ongoing legal proceedings.
He further explained, “Therefore, Senator Abaribe could not have pursued such an effort, knowing it would be futile.”
The statement concluded by urging the public to ignore the fabricated report and refrain from circulating unverified information.
