The Ogun State Government has confirmed the arrest of Ashafa Afelaja, a headmaster at a private school in Eyin Ogbe, accused of sexually assaulting a female student.
The announcement was made by Adijat Adeleye, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, in a statement released on Monday. The arrest followed a report from a concerned citizen who alerted the state authorities about the incident.
According to Adeleye, the suspect is currently in police custody, while the victim is receiving medical attention and psychological support. The ministry is actively collaborating with law enforcement to ensure justice is delivered and has called on the public to report any instances of child abuse or domestic violence promptly.
“Our rescue team responded to reports of a school headmaster physically assaulting a young female pupil in Adamo, Ikorodu, a border community,” Adeleye explained. “The perpetrator is now in custody, and we are providing the necessary care for the child and her mother as we pursue further action.”
She emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting survivors, stating, “The victim is being cared for medically and psychologically. Our ministry is determined to secure justice for all abuse survivors and will continue partnering with law enforcement for swift action against offenders.” Adeleye also encouraged citizens to stay vigilant and report any cases of child abuse, domestic violence, or human maltreatment.
Reaffirming the state’s stance, she added, “Under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun, this administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward gender-based violence, child abuse, and all forms of domestic abuse.”
