Concerned about the escalating criminal activities along the borders of Anambra and Enugu States, the Police Commands of both states have initiated joint interstate border operations.

Recent reports have highlighted a surge in interstate and cross-border crimes, particularly by kidnappers and gunmen, prompting the need for strengthened security cooperation between the two states.

A strategic meeting was convened at the Anambra Police Command headquarters in Awka, bringing together Deputy and Assistant Police Commissioners from both states. The session focused on formulating critical security strategies to address key flashpoints in the region.

As noted by Tochikwu Ikenga, the Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, this initiative aligns with the policing guidelines set by the Inspector-General of Police.

On March 24, 2025, Anambra State’s Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, and his Enugu counterpart, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, convened to create operational strategies for proactive policing along the borders.

The Commissioners identified the infiltration of criminals between the two states as a significant security challenge that demands immediate action to curb violent crimes and the activities of criminal elements.

Both commissioners agreed to collaborate closely, exchange intelligence, and pool resources in an effort to combat violence and crime at the borders and within their respective states.

They reaffirmed their commitment to confronting all forms of criminal activity decisively, ensuring public safety and security. Additionally, they issued a stern warning to criminals operating in the region, urging them to either reform or face the full force of the law.
