Gunmen believed to be members of the Islamic State in Sahel Province (ISSP), locally known as Lakurawa, launched a deadly assault on Adarawa Village in Kalanjeni Ward, Tangaza LGA of Sokoto State late Sunday night, killing three people and looting shops.

Armed with AK-47 rifles and traveling both on foot and motorcycles, the insurgents began their rampage at approximately 11 p.m., shooting indiscriminately. Among the first victims was a local resident, Jamilu Hassan.

The attackers then moved to nearby Huymar Dutsi Village, where they killed two more residents—Auwalu Namadi Nagande and Maidamma Sanda—while continuing their shooting spree.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants carried out a house-to-house search, stealing livestock including cattle, camels, and sheep, which were later transported toward Kwarakka Village.

This violence comes in the wake of reports of suspicious activity in Gidan Madi Town, also in Tangaza LGA. Between 3 and 5 p.m. earlier on Sunday, locals spotted unidentified individuals—thought to be Fulani men—riding in groups of eight motorcycles, dressed in ceremonial attire often used for weddings. They were last seen moving toward the Binji axis.

Community members have called on security agencies to intensify surveillance and response efforts across the region.

In a related development, suspected ISSP militants reportedly mounted a roadblock at Gulbin Mujadde, situated between Sabro and Barkatube villages. Armed and traveling on 12 motorcycles, they intercepted traders transporting livestock purchased from a Niger Republic market, seizing the animals. The group then fled toward Tummunna Village in Magonho Ward.
