The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has revealed plans for a temporary shutdown of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) to conduct scheduled maintenance, effective from May 24, 2025.

According to a statement released on Saturday by Femi Soneye, NNPC Ltd.’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, the shutdown is part of a strategic effort to perform a sustainability assessment and maintenance to enhance the refinery’s efficiency.

The statement noted, “NNPC Ltd. will undertake a planned maintenance shutdown of the Port Harcourt Refining Company starting May 24, 2025. This initiative aims to ensure the facility operates at peak performance.”

NNPC Ltd. is collaborating with key stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), to execute the process transparently and efficiently. The company reaffirmed its dedication to bolstering Nigeria’s energy security.
