Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on reaching the midpoint of his term, acknowledging that recent reforms have impacted the poorest Nigerians.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his former Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari expressed his support for the Tinubu administration’s ongoing efforts to tackle poverty and inflation—issues he noted have affected low-income families the hardest.
Buhari called for continued public backing of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, stressing that meaningful reforms take time and cannot yield results overnight.
He also cautioned against allowing political interference to derail necessary policy changes, urging Nigerians to focus on long-term national progress.
“As we celebrate the party and the government’s achievements, we must remember that leadership is a continuous journey,” Buhari said.
While encouraging Nigerians to support Tinubu’s administration, he emphasized that the responsibility of reducing poverty and inflation should not rest on the government alone.
“The private sector and all of us, as citizens, must contribute in every way we can,” he stated.
Buhari urged the public to remain hopeful and realistic about their expectations from government. He concluded by congratulating Tinubu on his two-year milestone and prayed for divine guidance and wisdom for the president as he continues to lead the country.
