Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has announced he will not run for president in the 2027 election but is committed to removing President Bola Tinubu’s administration from power.

In a candid interview, El-Rufai described Tinubu’s government as an “evil” and a “tragedy,” expressing deep regret for his role in Tinubu’s ascent to the presidency.

According to El-Rufai, the current administration faces overwhelming public disapproval, with polls showing a historic 91% rejection rate nationwide. “Nigerians are fed up with the ruling All Progressives Congress and are searching for a credible alternative,” he said.

He called for unity among major political figures such as former Nigeria’s Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, urging them to work together to build a strong opposition front.

“I have no ambition for the presidency,” the 65-year-old politician affirmed. “Since I helped bring about this tragedy, I now want to dedicate my remaining efforts to removing this evil before it destroys Nigeria.”

El-Rufai pledged his support for any political party or coalition chosen through consensus to challenge Tinubu’s hold on power in 2027, hinting at the possibility of a united opposition alliance.
