A 73-year-old Israeli national, Avi Warshaviak, tragically passed away after falling suddenly ill while staying at a hotel in the Garki district of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The incident occurred on Saturday at the Corinthia Villa Hotel, where Warshaviak was lodged with his wife. According to a report shared on X (formerly Twitter) by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Sunday, the elderly tourist experienced a sudden medical emergency at approximately 9:51 a.m.

Hotel staff quickly responded and transported him to Asokoro General Hospital. Unfortunately, medical personnel pronounced him dead shortly after his arrival.

The hotel’s Chief Security Officer, Okorie Emmanuel, reported the case to the Garki Divisional Police Headquarters around 11:23 a.m. that same morning.

Police officers subsequently visited both the hotel and the hospital to gather preliminary information. Warshaviak’s remains have been transferred to the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities have begun contacting the Israeli Embassy in Nigeria to initiate consular and repatriation procedures.

The circumstances surrounding his sudden illness remain under investigation.
