Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections and former Governor of Anambra State, has paid heartfelt tribute to Peter Rufai, the legendary former Super Eagles goalkeeper who recently passed away.

In a message shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Obi described Rufai’s death as a tragic loss to the nation. He praised the late football star for his unwavering dedication and contributions to Nigerian football during his active years, highlighting how Rufai brought joy to millions of Nigerians through his remarkable performances on the pitch.

“Peter Rufai gave his best to our nation and delighted many football-loving Nigerians with unforgettable moments in the game,” Obi wrote.

He offered prayers for Rufai’s peaceful repose and extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, wishing them strength and comfort in this difficult time.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire generations to come. Rest in power, Peter Rufai, our Dodo Mayana,” Obi concluded in his tribute.

Peter Rufai, affectionately known as “Dodo Mayana,” was a respected figure in Nigerian football, having represented the Super Eagles in numerous international tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup and the African Cup of Nations.
