Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has called on All Progressives Congress (APC) Zonal and State Publicity Secretaries to strengthen their efforts in informing Nigerians about the administration’s progress and accomplishments.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday during a capacity-building seminar for party spokespersons, organized by the Office of the APC National Publicity Secretary, Onanuga underscored the need for more grassroots-focused communication strategies.
He stressed that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu-led administration is not just a political mantra, but a tangible reality already shaping lives across the country.
“We need to do more, especially at the grassroots, to inform our people about what this government is doing to improve their lives,” Onanuga said.
He pointed to increasing economic activity, restored investor confidence, and measurable improvements in key sectors as evidence of progress under President Tinubu.
“Under the current administration, the economy is picking up, and a lot of confidence has been restored. Many investors are now coming into the country to invest across various sectors,” he added.
Despite inheriting a fragile economy, Onanuga noted that the government has made strides in agriculture, solid minerals, and other critical areas.
In his welcome remarks, Ali Dalori, Acting National Chairman of the APC, charged the party’s spokespersons to carry the message of the Renewed Hope Agenda with renewed energy and commitment, particularly as the administration continues to deliver on its promises.
Senator Ajibola Bashiru, APC National Secretary, commended the collaboration between the President’s media team and the APC communications arm in organizing the seminar. He highlighted the crucial role of strategic communication in influencing public opinion and managing political narratives.
“We must focus our communication on the government’s economic achievements and show that, contrary to negative predictions, the naira is performing better,” Bashiru stated.
He also advised spokespersons to maximize the use of local radio stations in their states to broadcast the administration’s initiatives and successes, emphasizing that such platforms remain key channels for reaching the grassroots.
“Nigeria operates a federal system, not a unitary one. We must highlight not only federal but also state and local government achievements,” he said.
“As the largest political party in Nigeria with 23 governors, we must showcase their developmental efforts. It’s not just about making noise; it’s about real programmes and measurable outcomes.”
In his closing remarks, Felix Morka, APC National Publicity Secretary, echoed the need for continuous public education about the administration’s initiatives and their impact on citizens’ lives.
The seminar, which brought together APC stakeholders and spokespersons from all zones and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), aimed to enhance communication strategies and build capacity for more effective public engagement.
