The Obidient Movement has firmly denied reports suggesting that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was deceived into joining a new opposition coalition spearheaded by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement on Thursday, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the movement, labeled the claim as a “lie from the pit of hell”, describing it as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and sow confusion among Obi’s growing base of supporters.

“There is no iota of truth in that claim. Nobody deceived Peter Obi. If he has anything to say about the coalition, you will hear it from him or his aides,” Tanko clarified.

According to Tanko, Obi’s participation in the alliance aligns with his consistent stance on collective action to address Nigeria’s most pressing issues.

“Peter Obi has always said one person cannot do it alone. It has to be a joint effort to tackle poverty, education, healthcare, and economic challenges,” he emphasized.

The rebuttal comes in response to comments made by Katchy Ononuju, a former aide to Obi, who alleged that the former Anambra State governor was misled and sidelined in favor of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, rumored to be the coalition’s preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

Despite the swirling rumors, the Obidient Movement remains steadfast in its purpose.

“We will not be distracted by false narratives,” the group asserted, reaffirming its focus on building a broad, united front to rescue Nigeria from its current challenges.
